Who We Are
We are a local family owned pest services company based in Prosper/McKinney, TX. We have the joy of balancing a family of 6, with kids ranging form elementary to high school and in activities ranging from band to football.
Sam and Sara cofounded A Bug Guy and bring over four decades of business ownership and team leadership to a growing area and company. We deliver friendly, professional service with the utmost excellence we can achieve with a side of fun.
What We Stand For
We stand for:
- Integrity - For us, this means doing what you say you are going to do. It means doing the right thing... even when no one is looking. It means treating your home or business as we do our own.
- Respect - Honoring others' differences while recognizing and valuing those differences even if you don't agree.
- Honesty - Honesty is crucial in our business. We set expecations up front. We do not just tell you what you want to hear, use scare tactics, or hide things if we mess up. We communicate, make it right, and help solve the problem.
- Kindness - "If you can't say nothin' nice, don't say nothin' at all" - Thumper
- Compassion - Consideration that everyone has something going on... to understand that their are other people in the world that think differently... and that is ok.
- Transparency - We comminicate... a lot. Sometimes too much. We show our pricing, let you know what to expect, deliver on those expectations, and then we communicate more about what else can be done or what to expect next.
Our Beliefs
We believe in One God, three in one... The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit.
We lean on a few scriptures that guide us in our business.
Genesis 1:26 NIV
Then God said, "Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.
Deuteronomy 8 NIV
Do Not Forget the Lord
1 Be careful to follow every command I am giving you today, so that you may live and increase and may enter and possess the land the Lord promised on oath to your ancestors. 2 Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. 3 He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. 4 Your clothes did not wear out and your feet did not swell during these forty years. 5 Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the Lord your God disciplines you.
6 Observe the commands of the Lord your God, walking in obedience to him and revering him. 7 For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land—a land with brooks, streams, and deep springs gushing out into the valleys and hills; 8 a land with wheat and barley, vines and fig trees, pomegranates, olive oil and honey; 9 a land where bread will not be scarce and you will lack nothing; a land where the rocks are iron and you can dig copper out of the hills.
10 When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you. 11 Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day. 12 Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down, 13 and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, 14 then your heart will become proud and you will forget the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. 15 He led you through the vast and dreadful wilderness, that thirsty and waterless land, with its venomous snakes and scorpions. He brought you water out of hard rock. 16 He gave you manna to eat in the wilderness, something your ancestors had never known, to humble and test you so that in the end it might go well with you. 17 You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.” 18 But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.
19 If you ever forget the Lord your God and follow other gods and worship and bow down to them, I testify against you today that you will surely be destroyed. 20 Like the nations the Lord destroyed before you, so you will be destroyed for not obeying the Lord your God.
John 15:12 NIV
"My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you."
How We Act
"The Ideal Team Player" by Patrick Lencioni has had a huge impact on our company and how we are working to build it. We agree with the priciples in this book, and we strive to emulate them as much as possible.
Humble
We define humility as thinking of yourself less, and not thinking less of yourself. It involves knowing what you are good at and not bragging about it. It is knowing what you are not good at, accepting it, and not looking down on yourself for it. It looks like treating a janitor as you would your favorite celebrity, athlete, or scholar. How does this translate to A Bug Guy?
- We are good at pest control and we know it.
- You will get the same treatment whether you are in a shack or a palace.
- We are always learning... we do not know it all.
- If we don't have the answer, we will find it.
Hungry
We aren't talking about food. We are talking about drive. The hunger to do the very best at everything you do. The hunger to do what it takes to get the job done. We are not talking about no work life balance. We value hunger for time with family, being the best versions of oursleves, and resting when it is time to rest. How does this transltae to A Bug Guy?
- We will do everything we can to solve your pest problem.
- We show up to your appointment on time.
- If we are not on time, it is usually because there was something additional needed at a prior appointment. We will do the same for you. We also will let you know in this case.
- We don't work weekends... unless its really bad. We reserve weekends for family.
Smart
Smart is not about books. Its about people. We value spending time to understand ourselves, understand others, and to understand how we interact and communicate with each other. How does this translate to A Bug Guy?
- We communicate... a lot.
- We will let you know when we are on our way with an ETA.
- We communicate expectations. We ensure you have a good understanding of what we did, what we saw, and what is next.
- We will tell you how you can treat things yourself when appropriate.
- We take stock of oursleves before we enter your home.
Our Values
Excellence -
... is what we strive for. Perfection is a myth. Let me explain: Perfection will leave you always looking for what you did wrong, and you will find it... even if it isn't there. Excellence leaves you looking for what you could do better. It is a subtle, powerful shift in thinking.
At A Bug Guy Pest Services, we believe that excellence in pest control means that no matter how good of job we do, there are always things that could be done better. We slow down and reflect on what we have done at each job to ensure exceptional attention to detail. We strive to learn something new everyday; to drive excellence forward a bit more each day.
Excellence in pest control means more than just eliminating unwanted guests... it’s also about serving our community with honesty and integrity. It means that we solve the problems that other companies have been unable to. We understand the importance of a pest-free home. We take pride in treating your home like our own, ensuring you receive the best care without breaking the bank.
Fun -
We actually searched for synonyms to fun and could not find anything that matched what we mean better. We are not out for fun all the time. We are talking about making what you are doing fun.
You may have noticed some confetti showers of fun on our website, quotes from Thumper (Bambi) or the cheat sheet to the alphabet game on our truck. We often joke with our customers and our customers often joke with us. We usually don't call the bug by its technical name. While we know the technical name, it is much more "fun" to give it a nickname, or to refer to wasps with their proper title, "jerks"... cuz that's what they are.
Sacrificing professionalism is not our goal either. We meet each client where they are on any given day. That may mean we are singing to our own internal soundstrack silently while you work away.
Integrity -
Integrity is overplayed in the business world, and you may be reading this in agreement. However, in our words, this means doing what we say we are going to do. It means doing the right thing... even when no one is looking. It means treating your home or business as we do our own.
Integrity, to us, encapsulates many other things. Honesty in all things, for example. Transparency is another...letting all things be known. Respect allows us to see others as equals whether we agree with them or not.
Let's talk about doing the right thing. The right thing is to do the job right the first time, to think before speaking, to honor the mistakes made and to make them right. We don't often make mistakes, but they do happen. It's how we respond that makes the difference.
A Bug Guy's History
2022 - Sam and Sara start brainstorming A Bug Guy. Things are set into fast forward by an unexpected shift in Sam's previous pest control role.
2023 - A Bug Guy is officially opened for business. We saw our first customer on Jan 4, 2023.
2025 - June - Launched the website you are currently looking at. With the webiste, we added a new service offering: "Critter Consult".
That's all for now, folks! Stay tuned for future milestones.
The Truck
The truck we drive is what Sam's dad left behind for him. It has become the company vehicle, honoring big Sam and his legacy of work trucks. We drive this truck by choice (and because feeding 4 teenagers is expensive).
We have made it part of the identity of the company, and incorporated many of our values and beliefs in to the design. We went for simplicty, reliablity, a splash of fun, and adding some modern day tech to the 25 year old truck.
We hope you enjoy the truck as much as we do, and we plan on keeping it in the company for as long as time will allow.
And as a THANK YOU for reading this far.... enter the discount code "ABC Game" in the "referred by" field, by voice or by text for a special discount (triple word score for "truck" in Scrabble... no other multipliers) on your next service (once per customer).
